How to care for your independent elderly loved one who remains living in their own home? Caring for a loved one can be a very delicate and at times a problematic situation where elder self neglect borders on elder neglect. How do you respect your loved ones rights to live independently and yet at the same time make sure they are properly cared for?
This is where the roll of manager-caregiver comes into play. As a Family Caregiver it is disrespectful to become the “parent figure” for your parent. Instead it is best to make it clear to them that your roll is to be an “Elder-Assistant” to help assist them in their daily life. Eventually, as your loved one’s health declines, you will have to take on the role of manager-caregiver.
